- SCP-9016 is not a virus, but rather a condition called "hypo-nooticism," which is essentially a lack of exposure to the "psychosphere," or the collective background of human thoughts and emotions, on the extrasolar colony of Anvil. This condition primarily affects individuals with psychic abilities, causing symptoms like migraines, hallucinations, paranoia, and uncontrollable psychic outbursts. Initially, containment involved isolating infected individuals and administering memory-wiping drugs, which temporarily alleviated symptoms. However, the condition proved to be a deeper environmental issue, spreading more aggressively when people were isolated. The true "cure" was discovered to be community and social connection, as being together and sharing thoughts helps to fill the "holes" in the psychosphere and counteract the loneliness that drives the anomaly.

The most significant eruption occurred in January 2022, creating the largest atmospheric explosion recorded by modern instruments, generating a tsunami that reached distant coasts and sending a volcanic plume 58 kilometers into the mesosphere.
